Principal’s Bison Bulletin for April 7

Good evening!  This is Principal Hettenbach from High Point Central High School with a message from the Boulevard.

We are in the home stretch and we can’t afford to back off the gas pedal. Thank you again for advocating for your student’s success.

As we only have 5 days before spring break, and then only 30 days until testing starts, how can we all partner to accomplish the very best? Are there any needs from the home that the school can assist with? Are we all aware of how each and every student is currently doing? As I mentioned, the very short window of time before the year ends, the phones should be ringing often between the school and the home to assure that we are the most successful we can be. Please don’t hesitate to contact the school after you spend just a few minutes reviewing your student’s grades and attendance. We are here for you but we also need your help.

This Thursday, April 10th, The Bison Club Athletic Boosters Meeting will be at 6PM in the Main gym. The Bison Club will be recruiting new members and officers, please come out and support the Athletics Department.

This week we enjoy a little pre-spring spirit. Please take a moment to review the individual spirit days.

Do you have any prom dresses you would like to donate to our school to assist some of our young females for the prom? If so, please bring them to the school.

Did you know we are offering Hospitality and Tourism next year?

Come join us at The MultiCultural Fair on Wednesday, April 23rd from 6-8.

We are thrilled to share that High Point Central will be shining brightly in this year’s Superintendent’s Choice Art Awards Exhibition—the annual county-wide showcase for Guilford County Schools! This is a wonderful opportunity to see the outstanding creations of our student artists in both my classes and Ms. Ballard’s classes.

Mark Your Calendars:

Opening Reception: April 10, 6:00–7:00 p.m.

Location: The Art Gallery (TAG) in High Point, just a few blocks from our campus!

HPC will be proudly represented by the following amazing students:

Emma Bachman – Prof/Advanced Art

Camila Briseio – Aparicio – Begin/Intermediate Art

Brandon Cao – Digital/Graphic Design

Maddie Doak – Sculpture

Leah Ellerby – Photography

Lauren McCullough – Prof/Advanced Art

Lila Perdomo – Photography & Begin/Intermediate Art

If you see these wonderful artists in the halls, please congratulate them on their hard work and creativity in being chosen to participate in the show. We also encourage you to drop by the opening on April 10 if you can, to support our students and admire the incredible artwork from across the county.

Additional Exciting News:

I would also like to give special recognition to Maddie Doak and Brandon Cao, whose outstanding artworks will be traveling to Raleigh after the SCAA show because they were accepted into the North Carolina Museum of Art’s Teen Exhibition opening in June! This is a amazing honor. Of 26 student artworks chosen from across that state, HPC has two artists represented! I am so proud of Maddie and Brandon’s dedication and remarkable talent.

Thank you for cheering on our Bison artists and for all you do to support and inspire our students. Let’s keep celebrating our success!

Can you assist? Please share this post ! All donations can be brought to High Point Central High School attention: Jodi Hughes and Zenaida Flores

I hope you have heard the amazing news! High Point Central was named the prestigious Hubert Humphrey Most Improved School at the state of the county banquet. This is a testament to the passion and perseverance of our amazing staff, the students that work hard, use resources in front of them and set high goals. The parents and guardians who advocate for their student while also supporting the school, and of course our powerful alumni and community members! If you have not seen the news segment, simply go to google and type in High Point Central Hubert Humphrey award. WFMY did a great job!

As we continue to navigate through the year, please make sure you are following our athletics clear bag policy.

Sign Up Today for Free High-Speed Internet for 2+ years

The Technology and Data Institute (TDI) in partnership with Guilford County Schools (GCS) and Lumos is offering a FREE pilot service for the next 2+ years to connect eligible students to digital classroom tools while at home, riding the school bus, and within the community. Eligible students must attend one of four schools – Fairview Elementary, Penn-Griffin School for the Arts, Ferndale Middle School, or High Point Central – and reside in a neighborhood served by Lumos Fiber. The pilot program will provide free service through June 2026 and then will seek to secure federal or state funding to continue the program beyond that date.

As we have all learned, having internet access to classroom tools (now) and job opportunities and health services (lifelong) are fundamental to success in today’s classroom and society.

This program is truly as good as it sounds with NO added costs or strings attached. You will be contacted shortly by school officials to describe program benefits, including:

Flexible, no-cost access to high-speed home internet through June 2026. Automatic connection for your student’s Chromebook or iPad via a wireless service called “eduroam.”Roaming access to modern learning tools at school, home, on selected school buses and community sites throughout Guilford County, and at thousands more locations nationwide!
