Principal’s Bison Bulletin for September 16

Good evening!  This is Principal Hettenbach from High Point Central High School with a message from the Boulevard.

Did you know.. Students applying for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 terms who have a weighted high school GPA less than 2.8 are required to submit a standardized test score (ACT or SAT). Students with a weighted high school GPA of 2.8 or higher are not required to submit a test score but recommended for scholarships and honor’s placement.

A crafting corner interest meeting will be held in room 300 at 4:15 on Tuesday, September 17th. Please come on in if you are interested in learning or teaching how to knit, crochet, make jewelry, or any other craft.

Shift_ed will host a virtual SAT / ACT Prep Session on September 19 beginning at 6:00 pm. See your counselor or Mr. Harper for registration information.

There will be a Beta Club Meeting on Thursday, September 19th at 8:30 am in the auditorium. All current and newly inducted members from last year should plan to attend. Please see Mrs. Stafford in room 300 with any questions.

Do you want to learn about Robots? Do you want to compete against other robots? Then join the Robotics club. The robotics club will meet Thursdays after school in room 114. For more info, see Mr. Watkins or Mr. Yingling.

Are you passionate about art? Do you want to be part of something creative and inspiring? We are excited to announce the launch of our very own National Art Honor Society chapter! An interest meeting will be held next Friday, September 20th, from 4:20 to 5:20 in Room 107A, Ms. Bailey’s art room. This is our founding year, so you’ll have a chance to help shape the future of our chapter! Students must have taken at least one art class and meet GPA requirements to join. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity for national recognition, leadership, and service in the arts. We can’t wait to see you there!

Johnson and Wales University will be visiting our campus on September 20th at 9:30am. Sign up today if you are interested. Please speak with Mr. Harper for the details and requirements.

The Learning Hub is making its return on September 24th, 2024. The program offers flexible opportunities for students to receive academic and social-emotional supports, tutoring, and enrichment outside regular school hours. Learning Hub will occur on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon (4:30PM – 6PM ). In the Media Center. • Students need to bring their ID cards • Transportation and food provided

College and Career Promise Info Sessions will be held in the Koury Auditorium on GTCC’s Jamestown Campus on September 19 and September 25 from 6-7. Come out to learn about dual enrollment, the application process and qualifications.

The 2024 NC College Fair will be held on Monday, September 30 at the Greensboro Coliseum. High Point Central will provide transportation for any senior that would like to attend. Permission slips can be picked up in counseling. All signed forms should be returned by Wednesday, September 25th. Late forms will not be accepted.

I hope you have heard the amazing news! High Point Central was named the prestigious Hubert Humphrey Most Improved School at the state of the county banquet. This is a testament to the passion and perseverance of our amazing staff, the students that work hard, use resources in front of them and set high goals. The parents and guardians who advocate for their student while also supporting the school, and of course our powerful alumni and community members! The Technology and Data Institute (TDI) in partnership with Guilford County Schools (GCS) and Lumos is offering a FREE pilot service for the next 2+ years to connect eligible students to digital classroom tools while at home, riding the school bus, and within the community.
