Tomorrow, Monday is a teacher workday. Students do not come to school.
In the 1st interim report, we are moving the needle with attendance. 244 students had perfect attendance in the first 3 weeks! Overall school attendance has moved from roughly 88% to 91% in comparison to last year’s start. Also, in the areas of behavior, High Point Central has decreased behavioral incidents by 84%! We have increased our scholarship total last year and reduced our drop out rate. In the area of academics from the 22-23 school year in comparison to the 21-22 school year, High Point Central has improved in overall growth by 3% points. We have moved the needle in 3 of the 4 big tested areas, English 10, Biology, Math 1, and Math 3. We improved in yearly student attendance, dramatically reduced our chronic attendance and also improved in staff attendance. I am so proud of EVERYONE! While we will still make effort in continuing to grow in those areas, we also need to pay extra attention on the ACT and the Graduation Rate in which we barely missed 90% by 1/10th of a point. While High Point Central is designated as low performing, we have the ship pointed in the right direction showing improvement in a majority of areas that we focus on. I applaud our teachers, students and families and their never-ending hard work.
Another gentle reminder to everyone that school starts at 9:15. Our attendance rate for 1st block is unacceptable and I need everyone’s help in making sure our students are at school and on time for all of their assigned classes. If you are driving your student, or if your student is walking to school, they should prepare to arrive by 9:10 in order to get to their class on time.

Hispanic Heritage Month takes place September 15 to October 15 every year as a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community. WHY DOES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH START IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH? September 15 was chosen as the kickoff because it coincides with the Independence Day celebrations of five “Central American neighbors,” — Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Those five nations declared their independence from Spain on September 15, 1821. Other Spanish-speaking nations have anniversaries close to those dates as well. Mexico– our neighbor– declared independence from Spain on September 16th, 1810. Chile did the same on September 18th, 1810.
