Bison Bulletin for the week of November 1

This past Thursday, the 1st quarter ended. Please stay on top of your student’s grades during the 2nd quarter to make sure they are achieving the best possible final grades for the 1st semester. Please reach out to your student’s teachers with any questions. Report Cards will be delivered electronically on Nov 7th.

This Tuesday, seniors will put down their deposit for their cap and gown. Please use this link to see the details related to deposit and other catalog items related to Seniors and graduation. Here is the timeline as of 10/25.

Tomorrow, Monday, October 31st is a teacher workday. No school for students.

The Greater Greensboro Chapter of the National Hampton Alumni Association will be hosting an on-site admission at Shiloh Baptist Church Family Life Center. 1210 S Eugene St, Greensboro, NC 27406 and scholarship giveaway event on Sunday, October 30th. All interested high school seniors are welcome to attend. Please advise students to bring a completed application along with a copy of their transcript. The director of admissions, Angela Boyd, will be in attendance. Students are asked to please RSVP using the QR code on the flyer or the link below.

The Jason Christopher James Memorial Scholarship applications are due February 5, 2023. One $7,500 award will be given to a student interested in politics, international relations, traveling, and studying/living abroad.


The Tyler David Williams Memorial Scholarship applications are due March 4, 2023. One $2,500 scholarship will be awarded based upon academic achievement. While it is considered during the selection process, economic need is not a prerequisite to apply.


The John Carlton Myatt Creative Writing Scholarship applications are due May 6, 2023. One $3,000 award will be given to a student who intends to pursue a degree in English, Writing, or Language Arts. Examples of creative and/or critical writing must be submitted along with this application.


The Herman and Earline Herbin Scholarship applications are due March 4, 2023. Two $1,750 renewable scholarships will be awarded to two Guilford County high school seniors. The scholarship is primarily need based, but academic standing will be a secondary determining factor.


The Thomas and Bettie O’Briant Scholarship applications are due March 4, 2023. One $2,500 scholarship will be awarded and is renewable for up to four years. This award is based on need and academic achievement.


The Kay Hagan Memorial Scholarship applications are due February 15, 2023. This scholarship is intended for a female high school senior with a passion for community and civic leadership. The $1,000 scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years.

The nationally renown Learning Hubs have begun! Are you aware that the average graduation rate of students who attended the learning hub is over 96%? Take advantage of all the services the Learning Hub can provide. Every Tuesday and Thursday, the Learning hub offers flexible opportunities for students to receive academic and social emotional supports, tutoring, enrichment, and a free meal outside of regular school hours. Are you interested in what goes on behind the scenes at sporting events? If so join CTE as they travel to Charlotte for Career in Sports Day with the Charlotte Hornets for a panel discussion, and a game against the Washington Wizards on December 2nd. For more information see Ms. King in 208

To all young men interested in trying out for basketball, tryouts will be held starting on Monday, October 31 to Wednesday, November 2. Tryouts will be from 4:30 to 6:00 for JV and from 6:00 to 8:00 for Varsity. Anyone wanting to tryout must have an updated physical and concussion form to participate. If you have any questions, please see Coach Battle or Coach Hammie ASAP for more details.

Girls’ Basketball tryouts will be held this coming Tuesday, Nov. 1st at 4:30. You must have a physical and concussion form on file to participate. See coach Hayes for paperwork asap

Financial Aid Information Night (With CFNC Representative)   Media Center at 6:00 PM. You’ve applied to college, now what? This event will explain the steps that seniors need to take to get financial aid and enrolled in college.

Herff Jones returns for Graduation supply orders. Bring your deposit.

Students interested in the military can take the ASVAB test. The test will begin at 9:30. Students need to report to the media center computer lab by 9:00am. To sign up, see Mr. Lowe in room 221C, Major Davis or SSgt Terry. ASVAB test will be given on Nov 2th, in the media center, starting at 9:30am to 3rd block.

Friday November 4

GAP (Guilford Apprenticeship Program) will be on campus on 11/4, Media Center, 11-12:30. They will discuss the great opportunities with the program. Students with GPA of 2.8 and higher will be invited to attend the presentation which will be in the media center at 2pm
