Bison Bulletin for the week of September 26

This is Mr. Hettenbach with a simple greeting from the Boulevard.

We are about midway through our first quarter and I hope each of you have the ability to monitor your student’s academics and attendance through PowerSchool. If not, please feel free to call the school and ask for assistance.

At the top of my list for this week’s message are two items. First, any 12th graders who have not received their meningococcal vaccine must do so before close of business Thursday in order to return to school on Friday. The second items is in regards to the new clear bag policy at athletic events across the district. Acceptable bags must be made of clear plastic or vinyl, including gallon-sized or smaller zip storage bags. Small clutch bags, diaper bags and bags used for medical supplies will be allowed but will be subject to inspection. More information about this process can be found on our website at www.gcsnc.com/athletics.

Please take a moment to open up this blog in it’s entirety to see what is coming up on the boulevard. There are so many things coming up on the Boulevard and I don’t want you to miss out on one thing. These items include but are not limited to: specific details surrounding the clear bag policy as well as the Meningococcal Vaccine requirements, yearbook purchasing, returning Chromebook and chargers, homecoming, spirit week, Fayetteville state and Appalachian state visiting our campus as well as many more events occurring down the road.

Parents can order underclassmen pictures online using the code on top right of the form above or bring Jamie Johnson the completed packet with the exact money, and Ms. Johnson can mail it in.

Yearbooks are on sale now for $65.  See or contact Ms. J with any questions.

Parents and guardians, if your student has not returned last year’s Chromebooks along with any chargers, please do so immediately.

Are you interested in traveling to Boston in 2024? Mrs. Stafford wants to invite YOU on this opportunity to view Bunker Hill and the Boston Tea Party, Fenway Park, and the site of the Salem witch trials. See Mrs. Stafford in room 300 OR scan the blue posters that are in the hallways for more details.

The Student Government Association (SGA) has been working hard planning this year’s activities!

One thing the students REALLY wanted last year that we are bringing back to HPC is a Homecoming DANCE!

You may have seen already but Homecoming Court will occur at the football game on 10/21 during halftime.

Previous years we did the female court during Football season, and a boys court during Basketball season. This year we will be doing both courts at the football game.

Followed by the dance SATURDAY evening, 10/22 from 8:00-11:00.

Tickets will be available starting in October. $10 for an HPC student, $20 to bring a non-HPC student (they must be under 20 years old and pass a background check through Officer Sep & Officer Jones).

Location: HPC Cafeteria

Food: Students should eat prior to the dance. Candy & Light snacks/drinks provided.

We want to remind our parents of an important requirement for students who are entering the 12th grade next year.

12th-grade students are required to receive the booster dose of the Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV).

GCS is legally required to exclude students who do not have documentation showing they received the required vaccinations within 30 calendar days of the first day of school (Aug. 29, 2022, for schools on the traditional calendar), or their first date of enrollment.

Appointment cards are not accepted as proof of documentation.

Please remember this requirement when you are scheduling your child’s yearly check-up and make sure you get proper documentation. Summer vacation is a great time to schedule an appointment for the vaccines.

·We encourage you to get your child vaccinated now before the deadline.

MCV is available at your health care provider’s office or by appointment at the Guilford County Department of Public Health offices, located in Greensboro (1100 E. Wendover Ave.) and High Point (501 E. Green Dr.).

To schedule an appointment for your child please call (336) 641-3245. Students may also receive vaccinations from their healthcare provider.

For families without insurance, you may call (336) 641-6720 for a free health assessment and immunization appointment.

GCS will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT test to all students in grades 10 and 11 on Wednesday, October 12.

The PSAT/NMSQT is a vital opportunity for students to practice for the SAT college admissions assessment. These tests provide valuable indicators of college readiness and the unique data source for AP Potential reports.
