Bison Bulletin for the week of September 12

This is Mr. Hettenbach with a simple greeting from the Boulevard.

We are now entering our 3rd week of school. This means interim reports are right around the corner. On Thursday, the first interim report will be provided. I highly recommend each parent and guardian to monitor their student’s grades through PowerSchool. This is a wonderful feature as you can have PowerSchool automatically send you updates at the beginning of each week. If you receive a notification of your student being absent or tardy one or more times in a day and you want to follow up on that, please e-mail Mrs. Kirby. If you have questions about how to sent up PowerSchool, please e-mail our data manager Mrs. Tracy Hamlin.

As a reminder, cell phones and earbuds are to be out of sight and sound throughout the day with the exception of the cafeteria. We are a 1 to 1 district. These are not conducive to the learning environment and the phones will be confiscated if they are out. Parents will be able to pick the phones up immediately thereafter. Students will be able to use any of the school phones to contact parents if they are in this situation. Failure to turn the phone over to any staff member will result in consequences.

Dress expectations can be found above. Students who do not abide by dress expectations will be sent to one of our staff members, so parents have an opportunity to bring in a change of clothes. If that is unsuccessful, we have a small clothes closet that students can choose from. If the student does not agree to follow the dress expectations, the student will receive disciplinary consequences. If you wish to donate any lightly worn, unused teenager size clothes, please bring them to the school.

Shift_ed is offering a virtual SAT/ACT Prep Class, coming up from 6-7:30pm on Thursday, Sept. 15. Register here: http://ow.ly/MS8650KyZM1

Anyone interested in joining Book Club should attend a meeting in room 322 on Tuesday September 13 after school. See Ms. Kelley for more details.

Anyone interested in playing baseball in the Spring needs to report to the gym after school on Tuesday September 20th. E-mail Mr. Locklear with any questions.

Attention all young men that are interested in playing basketball this season that are not currently playing a fall sport, come by room 220 to see Coach Battle. He will get your information and give you a schedule for fall workouts. You will need to be academically eligible, have a physical, and a concussion form to participate. Find Coach Battle for more information

The Student Government Association club is now accepting applicants for a Freshman Class President, Freshman Class Vice President, and a Freshman Representative! Signups are open until Wednesday September 14th, followed by a campaign and election among the freshman class body. Joining SGA is a great way to get involved at school. Lookout for the election flyers to scan a QR signup code, visit the HPC SGA Instagram, or see Ms. Wanichko in room 206 if you’re interested!”

There will be a Softball interest meeting on Tuesday, Sept 13 at 4:30 in Room 208.  Please see Coach King in room 208 or Coach Cook if you have questions.

The Greensboro Public Library is hosting a College Fair on September 21, from 4 pm –  6 pm at Central Library at 219 N Church Street.  The flyer is attached. We would love to have our Juniors and Seniors in attendance.  There will be a host of college and military representatives attending and sharing rich information.

We must maximize class time and we have been focusing on being on time to class, and no bathroom breaks the first and last 10 minutes of class. Please share this with your teenager. We have enacted a SWEEPS process to maximize punctuality.

Parents, when checking out your students early for any reason, please bring in your ID and be prepared to show it upon request. Please make sure to update all emergency contacts in SchoolMint. Please e-mail Tracy Hamlin for any questions.

“Get 2 for 1”  Find out the latest and greatest about what is happening at HPC and with HPC Athletics.  Please join us for both meetings on one night!  September 12 at 6:00 pm in the media center.  Please bring your $5 to join the HPC-PTO.  All are invited: community, parents, students and staff!  See you Monday, September 12 for both meetings starting at 6:00 pm in the HPC media center. Please contact Cece Biesecker for more information.

If you want student to have a free meal this year, you MUST fill out the application. We don’t want any meal service to be interrupted.

We want to remind our parents of an important requirement for students who are entering the 12th grade next year.

12th-grade students are required to receive the booster dose of the Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV).

GCS is legally required to exclude students who do not have documentation showing they received the required vaccinations within 30 calendar days of the first day of school (Aug. 29, 2022, for schools on the traditional calendar), or their first date of enrollment.

Appointment cards are not accepted as proof of documentation.

Please remember this requirement when you are scheduling your child’s yearly check-up and make sure you get proper documentation. Summer vacation is a great time to schedule an appointment for the vaccines.

·We encourage you to get your child vaccinated now before the deadline.

MCV is available at your health care provider’s office or by appointment at the Guilford County Department of Public Health offices, located in Greensboro (1100 E. Wendover Ave.) and High Point (501 E. Green Dr.).

To schedule an appointment for your child please call (336) 641-3245. Students may also receive vaccinations from their healthcare provider.

For families without insurance, you may call (336) 641-6720 for a free health assessment and immunization appointment.

GCS will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT test to all students in grades 10 and 11 on Wednesday, October 12.

The PSAT/NMSQT is a vital opportunity for students to practice for the SAT college admissions assessment. These tests provide valuable indicators of college readiness and the unique data source for AP Potential reports.
