This is Mr. Hettenbach with a simple greeting from the Boulevard.

The first day of school is tomorrow, Monday, and there are amazing things ahead. Here are some very quick things you should be aware of and discuss with your student. The school day starts 9:15, and students are allowed in the building at 8:55 where they will either go to the cafeteria to eat breakfast OR go directly to their Homeroom. The homeroom roster is here. This will only last 10 minutes and then students will report to their 1st block thereafter. Students who do not have their schedule should ask a staff member upon entering their Homeroom.

Cells phones and earbuds are to be out of sight and sound throughout the day with the exception of the cafeteria. We are a 1 to 1 district. These are not conducive to the learning environment and the phones will be confiscated if they are out. Parents will be able to pick the phones up immediately thereafter. Students will be able to use any of the school phones to contact parents if they are in this situation.

Dress expectations can be found above. Students who do not abide by dress expectations will be sent to one of our staff members, so parents have an opportunity to bring in a change of clothes. If that is unsuccessful, we have a small clothes closet that students can choose from. If the student does not agree to follow the dress expectations, the student will receive disciplinary consequences. If you wish to donate any lightly worn, unused teenager size clothes, please bring them to the school.

We must maximize class time and we will focus on being on time to class, and no bathroom breaks the first and last 10 minutes of class. Please share this with your teenager. We will be enacting a SWEEPS process to maximize punctuality.

All students have received schedules on August 19 via document delivery to their GCS student email accounts. Parents who have a registered email in Power School have received the schedules as well. If you do not have a registered or current email in Power School, please send Ms. Kimber, the counseling secretary, your email address at kimbere@gcsnc.com along with the name and grade level of your student.
Schedule changes will occur during the 1st week of school only. Students who are new to HPC, or who may have a gap in their schedule will be seen on August 29 and 30. Students who are scheduled to repeat a passed course, scheduled out of sequence or who need to take a prerequisite course, can alter their schedules August 31 through September 2. Schedule change forms will be available on the first day of school via the school’s website and forms will be available outside of the counseling office.

What an AMAZING Open House this past week! Your presence and interest in your student’s academics is inspiring and appreciated!!

Parking permit applications for seniors and juniors have started. Only seniors will be allowed open lunch. In subsequent starting the followings school years, there will no longer be open lunch as this is a safety concern and our cafeteria can easily handle our students. Any seniors who transport underclassmen during lunch will have their parking permit immediately revoked for the remainder of the school year.

If you want student to have a free meal this year, you MUST fill out the application. We don’t want any meal service to be interrupted.

We want to remind our parents of an important requirement for students who are entering the 12th grade next year.
12th-grade students are required to receive the booster dose of the Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV).
GCS is legally required to exclude students who do not have documentation showing they received the required vaccinations within 30 calendar days of the first day of school (Aug. 29, 2022, for schools on the traditional calendar), or their first date of enrollment.
Appointment cards are not accepted as proof of documentation.
Please remember this requirement when you are scheduling your child’s yearly check-up and make sure you get proper documentation. Summer vacation is a great time to schedule an appointment for the vaccines.
·We encourage you to get your child vaccinated now before the deadline.
MCV is available at your health care provider’s office or by appointment at the Guilford County Department of Public Health offices, located in Greensboro (1100 E. Wendover Ave.) and High Point (501 E. Green Dr.).
To schedule an appointment for your child please call (336) 641-3245. Students may also receive vaccinations from their healthcare provider.
For families without insurance, you may call (336) 641-6720 for a free health assessment and immunization appointment.

Do you want to know more about our IB program? Please each out to our IB Coordinator Mr. Williams immediately!

A huge thank you to students Ali Newton and Tu Tran for stepping up and assisting in painting a classroom that needed some serious love. Thank you ladies!

We need PTO volunteers! The best thing about the HPC PTO is that so many things are already in place. We just need the parents and community members to implement them. The PTO will be selling HPC shirts Tuesday and Wednesday morning at the front of the school. Please contact Cece Biesecker for more information.

GCS will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT test to all students in grades 10 and 11 on Wednesday, October 12.
The PSAT/NMSQT is a vital opportunity for students to practice for the SAT college admissions assessment. These tests provide valuable indicators of college readiness and the unique data source for AP Potential reports.
